Six men including the brother of Paul Pogba have been sentenced to various prison sentences after they were convicted of extorting the football star.
A Paris court on Thursday, December 19, Mathias Pogba to a three-year prison term, with two years suspended. The court also fined Paul Pogba’s brother €20,000 for participating in the attempted extortion of €13 million from Pogba in 2022, and for putting pressure on the player, his family and his business contacts to obtain the payment.
The five other defendants were convicted of extortion, kidnapping, unlawful detention, and involvement in a criminal organization. They were sentenced to prison terms of up to eight years, along with fines ranging from €20,000 to €40,000.
Mathias Pogba will be able to serve his one-year sentence with an electronic bracelet rather than behind bars.
Paul Pogba is currently banned from playing until March after testing positive for the banned substance DHEA, which boosts testosterone levels. He is hoping to revive his career after he and Juventus mutually agreed to terminate his contract.
