The Premier League returned for match week 10, and after Arsenal started the weekend with a tepid performance and defeat to Newcastle, the onus was on Manchester City to defeat Bournemouth and go 8 points clear.
The champions, riddled with injuries, turned up looking far from their best and were subsequently beaten by an inspired tireless Bournemouth side.
Antoine Semenyo opened the scoring after 10 minutes, and despite dominating possession, Pep Guardiola’s men created very little.
The second half saw more of the same, and Bournemouth went 2-0 up through Evanilson to compound City’s woes.
Josko Gvardiol’s goal wasn’t enough as the Cherries held on for their first-ever win against City in the Premier League era.
Meanwhile, Liverpool did their business, defeating Brighton 2-1 at Anfield to go two points clear at the top. Goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah canceled out Kadioglu’s first-half strike.
Elsewhere, West Ham’s torrid season continued as they lost 3-0 away at Nottingham Forest to slide even further down the table and closer to the relegation zone.
Saturday’s results
