Remo Stars keeps momentum on title chase after victory on the road

The Sky Blue Stars picked an important away victory at Akwa United on Sunday as they keep their title charge on.

Remo Stars secured maximum points away at Akwa United on the resumption of the Nigeria Premier Football League.

The Sky Blue Stars came from a goal down to win 2-1 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Sunday evening.

Ucheibe Sebastian, on his debut put Akwa United ahead six minutes after kick off from Chijioke Alaekwe’s pass.

Ahmed Alinyele’s had the cache to restore parity for the visitors but his shot went straight into the hands of Hakeem Otuyiga.

Akwa United ended the first half with slim advantage.

Remo Stars showed intent and more aggression from the start of the second half as they took charge of the match.

With fifteen minutes left on the clock, Samuel Anakwe scored the equalizer a few minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Adedayo Ojo scores the winner five minutes from time to give the Sky Blue Stars their third road win of the season.

Remo Stars are top of the NPFL table with 39 points after 20 matches.

 

In other results, Plateau United edged Rivers United 2-1 in Jos while Heartland picked a slim 1-0 win over Lobi Stars in Owerri.

Sunshine Stars and Ikorodu City treated fans to a seven-gial thriller on Saturday as the match ended 4-3.

Niger Tornadoes recorded the biggest win on matchday 20 with a 2-1 win over defending champions Rangers in Enugu.

Nasarawa United beat Katsina United 1-0 and Abai Warriors also recorded victory over Bayelsa United by the same scoreline.
