Mohamed Salah’s 63rd minute penalty was all that Liverpool needed as they defeated Girona 1-0 at the Estadio Municipal de Montilivi in Spain.
Joe Gomez had Liverpool’s first chance of the evening after just four minutes as his header was tipped over the bar by Paulo Gazzaniga. Gazzaniga was again called into action, pushing away a fierce strike from Darwin Nunez.
Girona had chances of their own with Daley Blind unable to convert from close range and Bryan Gil losing his footing after he found himself one-on-one with Alisson. Both sides were unable to find the net as the first half ended goalless.
Liverpool found their breakthrough from the spot in the 63rd minute after a VAR review highlighted a foul by Donny van de Beek on Luis Diaz.
Salah converted from 12 yards, and Liverpool were able to keep their hosts at arm’s length thereafter to maintain their perfect record in Europe this season.
