Southampton FC Players Take on Cryptocurrency Quiz

Southampton FC players Willy Caballero, Joe Aribo, and Ainsley Maitland-Niles participated in a cryptocurrency quiz on Sportsbet’s Clubhouse TV, demonstrating their knowledge of the rapidly evolving digital asset landscape.

The players were asked a series of true or false questions about Bitcoin, blockchain, and related topics. They tackled a bunch of true or false questions about everything related to cryptocurrency. While the Southampton FC players demonstrated a solid understanding of the crypto world, there were a few curveballs as well.

One question that the players answered incorrectly was, “The U.S dollar is backed by gold.” They answered true, while the correct answer is false. The U.S. dollar has not been backed by gold since 1971 when the U.S. abandoned the gold standard. This is a common misconception, not just among the players but also among the general public.

Willy Caballero thought that there are no pizzerias nowadays where you can pay with Bitcoin. Easy mistake to make considering how back in 2010 a man called Laszlo Hanyecz ended up spending what is now worth over 250 million dollars by choosing to buy 2 pizzas with crypto. Despite this famous story there are still quite a few places where you can get a slice for BTC.

But it wasn’t all misses. The lads knew their stuff when it came to the practical uses of crypto, correctly stating that they can be used for payments and even to buy a Tesla. They also knew that the first thing bought with Bitcoin wasn’t a boat. It was in fact the very same 2 pizzas that were mentioned earlier!

They were aware there are more than 16,000 cryptocurrencies listed on coin market cap, and that Tether (USDT) is a type of cryptocurrency that’s meant to mirror the value of the U.S. dollar. They knew that NFT is the most active market in the cryptocurrency business and that Dogecoin started as a joke.

So how do these footie stars stack up against the rest of us? Well, a recent UK survey found that while most of us (89%) have heard of Bitcoin, less than half (38%) have actually used or owned any cryptocurrency. So, it looks like our footballers might be ahead of the game when it comes to crypto knowledge!
