In a significant development for Uruguayan football, legendary forwards Luis Suárez and Lionel Messi have officially launched Deportivo LSM, a new football club based in Ciudad de la Costa, Canelones, Uruguay.
The club, originally founded by Suárez in 2021 as Deportivo LS, was rebranded to Deportivo LSM in May 2025 following Messi’s involvement as a co-owner.
Deportivo LSM operates as a sociedad anónima deportiva (SAD) and aims to ascend through the tiers of Uruguayan football.
The men’s team is set to compete in the Divisional D, the fourth tier of the Uruguayan football league system, while the women’s team participates in the Divisional B.
The club’s infrastructure includes the existing Complejo LS, featuring football 5 pitches, locker rooms, and meeting rooms.
Additionally, the Ciudad Deportiva LS is under construction, with plans to house a football stadium, a football 7 pitch, a hockey field, and multiple natural and synthetic grass pitches.

Suárez and Messi have expressed their commitment to developing local talent and contributing to the community. Suárez emphasized the project’s goal to foster both athletic and personal growth among players, while Messi highlighted his enthusiasm for supporting the club’s vision and bringing his experience to the initiative.
This collaboration between two of football’s most iconic figures marks a new chapter in their careers and presents an exciting opportunity for the growth of football in Uruguay.
