Brown Ideye, a Super Eagles icon and key member of Nigeria’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) triumph, has announced his retirement from professional football at age 36.
The announcement, made on social media platform X, brings an end to a journey that spanned multiple continents and endeared him to several fanbases, most especially Nigerians.

Born on October 10, 1988, Ideye began his career in Nigeria with Bayelsa United and Ocean Boys before moving to Europe in 2008 with Neuchâtel Xamax in Switzerland.
His talent shone brightest at Dynamo Kyiv, where he won the Ukrainian Premier League and established himself as a potent forward.

Ideye also played in France, England (West Bromwich Albion), Turkey, Greece, Spain, and, most recently, Enyimba in the NPFL, where he faced challenges like a modest N7,000 daily meal allowance, as he revealed in an interview.
