Two Nigerian players, Raphael Onyedika and former Under-23 international, Promise David, are in the running to win the Ebony Shoe Award.
The Ebony Shoe Award is organised to celebrate the best African player in the Belgian Jupiler League annually.
Raphael Onyedika and Promise David, who now represent Canada, are among the five players nominated for this season’s award.
Zakaria El Ouahdi of Racing Genk, Parfait Guiagon of Charleroi, and Adem Zorgane of Royale Union Saint-Gilloise also made the shortlist.
Onyedika has appeared in 25 Jupiler Pro League matches this season, while David scored fifteen goals in 37 games across all competitions before a hip injury sidelined him in February 2026.
Onyedika and David also impressed in the UEFA Champions League, where each scored two goals before Club Brugge and Royale Union Saint-Gilloise crashed out.
The Club Brugge and Union SG stars hope to follow in the footsteps of Daniel Amokachi, Victor Ikpeba, Godwin Okpara, Celestine Babayaro, and Paul Onuachu, who all previously won the award.
Organizers will present the 35th edition of the Ebbenhouten Schoen on Monday, May 4, at the Hotel Tangla in Brussels.
Tolu Arokodare won the award in 2025.
