In the second of two international friendlies between the two sides, the Super Falcons easily defeated their Algerian counterparts on Tuesday, 4-1, with longtime absentee Folashade Ijamilusi scoring a hat-trick in the afternoon at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.
Nigeria 4-1 Algeria
Farid Benstiti’s girls got out to a more confident and poised start than they did in Saturday’s first game in Ikenne-Remo.
After 12 minutes, though, former junior international Ijamilusi gave Nigeria the lead with a corner kick.
Nine minutes later, she doubled the lead by latching onto a second ball after Blessing Ilivieda’s attempt struck the crossbar.
Undeterred, the Green Ladies went into overdrive and had a chance to cut the score when Nigeria gave up a penalty kick in the 39th minute but Lina Boussaha missed.
But the Algerians’ lone goal of the two-match visit came in the 43rd minute when Ouassila Alouache slipped past the Nigerian defense and slotted past Unachukwu.
Gift Monday scored the third goal with a strong header in the first period added time as the Super Falcons, who had won the first meeting 2-0 thanks to a brace from Captain Rasheedat Ajibade.
Only one goal was scored during the thrilling second half, with Ijamilusi securing her hat-trick with just a few minutes remaining.
