Bayer Leverkusen returned back to winning ways in the Champions League as they thrashed RB Salzburg 5-0 yesterday night.
Leverkusen raced into an early lead through a penalty by Florian Wirtz. They doubled the lead after Alejandro Grimaldo whipped in a beautiful free kick just three minutes later that left Slazburg goalkeeper, Alexander Schlager rooted to the spot.
Wirtz scored his second with a beautiful solo effort before burying the ball into the back of the net. Leverkusen continued to dominate and this time, it was Patrick Schick who got on the scoresheet, firing in a first time finish from close range.
Substitute Aleix Garcia also got in on the action scoring in the 72nd minute to round up an emphatic night for Xabi Alonso’s men.
Super Eagles forward, Nathan Tella, who started on the bench was introduced in the 68th minute replacing Jeremie Frimpong. Victor Boniface was missing in action due to an injury which has ruled him out for the remainder of the year.
