3 Things You Need to Know Ahead of Nigeria vs Jordan Friendly

Tosin by Tosin

The Nigeria national football team will take on the Jordan national football team on Tuesday in Antalya, Turkey, as both teams continue preparations with an international friendly.

The Super Eagles earlier defeated Iran in their opening match by two goals to one, courtesy of a first half strike from Moses Simon, and a second half delivery from Akor Adams.

And why the match against Iran intensifies, here are three things you need to know about the match.

1. Match Details and What Is at Stake

The fixture is part of a four-nation invitational tournament being held in Antalya, Turkey, serving as a neutral ground for both sides. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 PM Nigerian time on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

Nigeria, known as the Super Eagles, come into the game in a rebuilding phase under head coach Eric Chelle after narrowly missing out on qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

For Jordan, popularly called Al-Nashama or “The Chivalrous Ones,” the stakes are different. The Asian side is preparing for their historic first appearance at the World Cup, making this friendly a key test against higher-ranked opposition.

2. A Rare Meeting Between Two Nations

Encounters between both countries at senior level have been extremely limited. Nigeria and Jordan have met just once in history, with the Middle Eastern side securing a 1–0 victory in a friendly match back in 2013.

That result gives Jordan a slight psychological edge, although the current Nigerian squad, ranked 26th in the world, will be expected to approach this game differently against a Jordan side ranked 64th globally.

3. Head-to-Head and Recent Form Paint Different Pictures

While Jordan hold the advantage in head-to-head record, recent form suggests Nigeria may have the upper hand going into this clash.

Nigeria are unbeaten in their last five matches (W-D-D-W-W), including a recent 2–1 victory over Iran and a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Their performances have been built on defensive discipline and quick attacking transitions.

Jordan, on the other hand, have recorded three wins, one draw, and one loss in their last five outings (D-L-W-W-W).

Their run includes a strong campaign at the FIFA Arab Cup, where they reached the final, alongside an impressive 3–0 win over Egypt during the tournament.

Despite conceding five goals in their last five matches, they have also shown attacking efficiency with nine goals scored.
