President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has rewarded the Super Falcons with national honours, cash prizes, and new homes following their triumphant outing at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they reclaimed their continental crown in style.
At a state reception held in their honour at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Tinubu announced that each member of the championship-winning squad will receive:
– A national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON)
– A fully furnished three-bedroom apartment
– A cash reward of $100,000

In addition, members of the technical and support crew were also recognised for their contributions, with each receiving a cash reward of $50,000.
Describing the Super Falcons as “national heroes,” President Tinubu praised the team’s resilience, unity, and unyielding spirit throughout the tournament.
“You didn’t just win a trophy; you won the hearts of Nigerians. You have made our country proud and inspired millions across the continent,” he said.
Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, speaking on behalf of the players, expressed gratitude for the national recognition, noting that the gesture would inspire even greater commitment from the squad.
“This honour is not just for us, but for every young Nigerian girl who dreams of becoming a champion,” she said.
The announcement marks one of the most significant recognitions ever bestowed upon a Nigerian women’s team.
