Tottenham dump Manchester United out of EFL Cup in seven-goal spectacle

Fans of Tottenham Hotspur and football neutrals were treated to an entertaining EFL Cup semi-final clash between the host and Manchester United on Thursday.

Previous meetings between both sides have produced loads of goals and Thursday’s installment wasn’t an exception.

Manchester United’s winless run in London continued as they narrow lost to Tottenham 4-3 in a pulsating encounter.

The host took advantage of Manchester United’s defensive frailties as they raced to a 3-0 lead under an hour.

Dominic Solanke scored twice, Dejan Kulusevsky scored as well as Spurs looked like prime 2009 Barcelona leaving the Red Devils in disarray.

However, the introduction of Joshua Zirkzee changed the tempo of the game of the away side.

The Dutch striker converted scored minutes after his introduction to the game from Bruno Fernandes’ sublime pass into the box.

Joshua Zirkzee almost got a second with a brilliant header but Forester dived quickly to deny him.

Fraser Forester’s sloppiness and Amad’s relentless press produced the second goal for the Red Devils going into the last 20 minutes of the game.

However, Son Hueng-Min scored directly from a corner in the 88th minute to restore Tottenham’s two-goal advantage

Jonny Evans header in added time left the home fans on their seats but it the home side held on as they laughed last in the comedy of errors match.
