UEFA has officially confirmed Barcelona’s Spotify Camp Nou as the venue for the 2029 UEFA Champions League final, bringing Europe’s biggest club game back to the iconic stadium for the first time since 1999.
The decision was reached by the UEFA Executive Committee at its meeting in Thessaloniki on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
Camp Nou was selected ahead of Wembley, while Munich’s Football Arena, home of Bayern Munich, will host the 2028 final.
The confirmed venues for the next men’s Champions League finals are:
- 2027: Estadio Metropolitano, Madrid — June 5
- 2028: Munich Football Arena, Munich
- 2029: Spotify Camp Nou, Barcelona
The renovated Camp Nou is expected to accommodate approximately 104,600 to 105,000 spectators, including around 9,400 VIP seats, making it one of the largest football stadiums in Europe.
UEFA’s decision was influenced by Barcelona’s strong hotel capacity, international accessibility through Barcelona-El Prat Airport and nearby Girona and Reus airports, as well as the scale of the rebuilt stadium.
Construction on Camp Nou is still ongoing, with the upper tier and roof yet to be completed. Barcelona are expected to continue using the stadium under limited capacity before returning to Montjuïc for some matches next season. The redevelopment is expected to be completed in 2027 or 2028, ahead of the 2029 final.
The 2029 showpiece will be the third European Cup/Champions League final staged at Camp Nou.
The stadium previously hosted the final in 1989, when AC Milan defeated Steaua Bucharest 4–0, and in 1999, when Manchester United produced a dramatic late comeback to beat Bayern Munich 2–1.
The 2029 final will therefore take place exactly 30 years after the famous 1999 final and one year before Spain co-hosts the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Portugal and Morocco.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta described the decision as “an immense pride for FC Barcelona and for all barcelonistas,” calling it international recognition of the new Spotify Camp Nou as a world-class stadium.
The exact date of the 2029 Champions League final has not yet been announced.
