The AFC Champions League delivered drama across Asia today as clubs in both the Elite and Two tiers continued their push for continental glory.

In Shanghai, hosts Shanghai Shenhua were held to a 1-1 draw by South Korea’s Ulsan HD. Luis Asue’s second-half strike briefly gave Shenhua hope of securing their first win of the campaign, but Ulsan quickly responded through Gustav Ludwigson in the 62nd minute to maintain their unbeaten start.

The result leaves the Korean side on four points from two matches, while Shanghai register their first point of the tournament.

Late drama unfolded in Japan, where Vissel Kobe edged Melbourne City 1-0 thanks to a stoppage-time winner from Koya Yuruki. The victory keeps Kobe perfect in the group with two wins from two, while Melbourne were left stunned after holding firm for almost the entire match.

In Dubai, Shabab Al Ahli continued their strong start with a 1-0 victory over Saudi giants Al Ittihad. Saeid Ezatolahi’s first-half header proved decisive, condemning Al Ittihad to a second consecutive defeat.

Elsewhere, Al Sadd and Sharjah played out a 1-1 draw. Qatar’s Al Sadd led through Akram Afif, only for Brazilian forward Caio Fernandes to equalise and ensure the spoils were shared. Neither side has yet found consistent momentum in the group.

China’s Chengdu Rongcheng earned an important 1-0 win over South Korea’s Gangwon FC, with captain Tim Chow scoring the only goal in front of an enthusiastic home crowd. The victory marks a positive milestone in Chengdu’s growing continental ambitions.

Earlier fixtures had also seen FC Seoul dismantle Buriram United 3-0, while Shanghai Port were held 1-1 by Japan’s Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

In the second-tier AFC Champions League Two, Indian side FC Goa suffered a setback in Tajikistan as they fell 2-0 to FC Istiklol in a Group D clash. The defeat leaves Goa with work to do if they are to stay in contention for progression.
