President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) , Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau says the federation is waiting on the government of president Bola Tinubu to disburse funds in order to pay the owed allowances of the women’s senior football team, the Super Falcons.
The Super Falcons are currently representing the country at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
When asked on the unpaid bonuses of the players, Ibrahim Gusau told veteran journalist Osasu Obayiuwana that the NFF is waiting for the federal government to sort the funds.
However, he adeed that the federation is working around the clock to ensure that the daily allowances of the players are paid.
Well, we are talking with @NigeriaGov, and I am sure that all the money due to the players will be released very soon. In the interim, we try to make sure that they are given their daily allowances, before we receive money from the government. I can assure you that all their monies will be paid by the government before the end of the tournament.”
According to a report published by Osasu Obayiuwana on hos X page, the football federation owe the Super Falcons camp allownaces and bonuses as far as 2021.
However, Ibrahim Gusau says he is not aware of the outstandings for the said period even though he admitted the federation is oweing the players.
I am not aware of that. As far as I am concerned, we just have a little outstanding. But not up to 2021. I told the girls that they do have a representative, they can come to the NFF and they can sort it out. We have our records of what was paid to them. But when I hear of these stories and call for an investigation, you hear of a different thing. I don’t know if you have been privileged to be with the team. You should speak to the administrator and get an answer from her…”
Meanwhile, the Super Falcons have qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition after winning their opening two matches against Tunisia and Botswana.
The nine-time champion will face either Morocco or Zambia in the last eight of the competition as they aim at a record 10th continental success.
