Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has downplayed his team’s chances of winning the Premier League title this season.
Despite the Blues’ 2-1 win over Brentford on Sunday, which moved them within two points of leaders Liverpool, Maresca remains cautious.
The win was courtesy of goals from Marc Cucurella and Nicolas Jackson. Meanwhile, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City all dropped points over the weekend, giving Chelsea a boost in the title race.
Liverpool drew 2-2 with Fulham, Arsenal was held to a 0-0 draw by Everton, and Manchester City suffered a 2-1 loss to Manchester United.
These results have narrowed the gap between Chelsea and Liverpool to just two points, albeit Arne Slot’s men have a game in hand.
However, Maresca is adamant that his team is not yet ready to compete for the title. “For me, we are NOT ready,” Maresca said in his post-match interview.
“You can talk about the title and the fans can dream about the title… absolutely. If you ask me, I will tell you what I think. We’re not ready but we are happy the fans can dream”.
