Nigeria’s Flying Eagles defender Emmanuel Chukwu has expressed the team’s resolve to kick off their 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations campaign with a victory.
Aliyu Zubairu’s squad will face the Young Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in their opening match at the June 30 Stadium in Cairo on Thursday.
“We understand the significance of this match, as it’s our first in the tournament,” the young defender told NFF TV.
“Our coaches have equipped us for the challenge ahead, and they’ve guided us on how to approach the game.
“We’re aiming for the three points, we’re prepared, and we won’t let the fans down.”
The four semi-finalists in Egypt will earn a spot at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile later this year.
Chukwu emphasized that the team’s primary goal is securing World Cup qualification.
“Like the coach said, the first target is to get the ticket to the World Cup first, and then we can look forward to taking the trophy home,” he said.
