Barcelona have confirmed that Lamine Yamal has suffered an ankle injury and is expected to be out for 3 or 4 weeks, essentially ruling him out for the year.
Yamal suffered the injury during their 1-0 defeat to Leganes and was replaced by Gavi in the 75th minute, with tests revealing that the 17-year-old had sustained a grade one ligament tear in his ankle.
“Tests carried out this morning have shown a grade one injury to the anterior tibiofibular ligament,” Barcelona said in a club statement on Monday.
“The player is expected to be out for three to four weeks.”
This news is a blow for Barca as they prepare for their top-of-the table clash with Atletico Madrid. Yamal has been an instrumental part of Barcelona this season with six goals and 12 assists in just 21 appearances this season.
Hansi Flick’s side face Atletico Madrid, who are level on points with the Blaugrana at the top of the standings, this Saturday at the Camp Nou.
