South Africa are in danger of missing out on qualifying for the World Cup next summer after failing to win against Zimbabwe.
The Brave Warriors held the Bafana Bafana to a stalemate at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in a keenly contested affair.
South Africa came into the tie needing against their neighbours to put themselves in good stead of qualifying for the World Cup on the last day.
However, Hugo Broos’ men failed to breach the defense of the Brave Warriors who kept the “visitors” at bay.
South Africa came very close to taking the lead five minutes from regulation time as Lyle Forester’s shot came off the foot of the goalpost.
Despite Kenneth Musonda’s red card after the hour mark, the Brave Warriors defended valiantly to keep till the blast of the final whistle.
Mbekezile Mbokazi also picked up a red card late in the tie after receiving a second yellow card within two minutes of receiving the first.
The result leaves South Africa second on the log with 15 points while Zimbabwe remain rooted to bottom of the group with five points.
