3 reasons Osimhen will not save Galatasaray from Europa League exit

Victor Osimhen’s return from suspension and his two-goal match-winning performance at the weekend have sparked hope among Galatasaray fans, but a miraculous comeback against AZ Alkmaar seems unlikely.

Here are three reasons why

History is Against Galatasaray

Galatasaray’s 4-1 defeat in the first leg has left them with a herculean task. They need to win by a three-goal margin just to force extra time.

In 57 previous attempts, only one team has overcome a three-goal deficit in the UEFA Europa League knockout round play-off. That sole occasion came over a decade ago, making this comeback mission highly unlikely.

Galatasaray have been unconvincing at home

While Galatasaray has scored three or more goals in each of their last five UEFA Europa League home games, none of those matches ended in a win by more than a two-goal margin.

Furthermore, the Turkish outfit has not won a UEFA Europa League fixture on their own patch by more than two goals since October 2009.

Fatigue issues

AZ Alkmaar has not been in action since the first leg, so they should be fresh and ready to extend their four-match winning record in all competitions.

All of those victories came by at least two goals, highlighting their excellent form in front of goal.

Even if Osimhen leads the charge and Galatasaray find a goal or two, they are unlikely to keep AZ from coring.

The Nigerian striker remains as deadly as ever, and we should never write him off, but this seems a step too far, even for someone of his qualities.
