Nigerian defender Igoh Ogbu has earned his first call-up to the Super Eagles, marking a significant milestone in his football career.

Here are three key things to know about the latest Super Eagles invitee:

1. Club Career and Recent Form

Ogbu currently plays as a central defender for Slavia Prague in the Czech Republic. He joined the club in January 2023 from Norwegian side Lillestrøm and has since been a pivotal figure in their defense.

2. International Experience at Youth Level

Before his senior team call-up, Ogbu represented Nigeria at the U-20 level. He was part of the Flying Eagles squad that participated in the 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Niger and the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland the same year.

His experience in these tournaments has contributed to his development as a defender.

3. Playing Style and Strengths

Ogbu is known for his physicality, aerial dominance, and composure on the ball. As a central defender, he excels in reading the game, making crucial interceptions, and winning duels, both in the air and on the ground.

His ability to play out from the back aligns with the modern demands of a ball-playing center-back, making him a valuable asset for the Super Eagles. Additionally, his goal-scoring ability from set-pieces adds an extra dimension to his game.

With his defensive qualities and growing experience in European football, Ogbu has the potential to become a key figure in Nigeria’s backline.
