Jannik Sinner defeated Polish Hubert Hurkacz who moved up to seventh in the world in straights (7-6, 7-6) set to win his first ATP title on grass in Halle Germany as world number one.

It is worthy of note that both players were doubles partners in the same competition but had to face each other in the finals. The first set was keenly contested as both players held on to their serves which took the opener to tie-break but Sinner nicked the set it 10-8.

Both players continued the second set in the same fashion as the first as both players clutched onto their serves. The second set also went all the way to tie-break but unlike the first decider that was tight the Italian edged is 7-2 to clinch the title.

This is Sinner’s first grass title of the season; he would be hoping to maintain his number one position going into the grass Grand Slam. He would want to keep that momentum having just three losses this campaign by going into Wimbledon which starts in less than a week time in the best of forms.
