The Super Eagles should not be underestimated, Benin manager Gernot Rohr has warned before of the pivotal AFCON 2025 qualifier against Nigeria.
It is anticipated that the game, which is scheduled for September 7 at Uyo’s Godswill Akpabio Stadium, will be quite competitive between the two West African countries.
Rohr says Super Eagles are stronger
The German coach observed that since their previous match, in which Benin defeated the three-time African champions, Nigeria had strengthened their team.
Important players like Ola Aina, Victor Osimhen, and William Troost-Ekong, who missed the Super Eagles’ FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Benin Republic’s Cheetahs, are returning for the Super Eagles this international window.
Osimhen is one of the best strikers in the world and recently completed a move to Turkish giants Galatasaray.
He is now in camp and expected to lead the attack when the Super Eagles face the Cheetahs of Benin Republic.
Rohr on Benin Republic vs Nigeria
Rohr offered his thoughts on the forthcoming game in an interview that was published on the Benin FA’s official X page.
He said, “We beat Nigeria three months ago, they will certainly have a spirit of revenge which can be important and that’s normal.
“They didn’t have some players who are there now: Ekong, the captain, Osimhen who will be there this time.
“He wasn’t there last time, and behind them they also have contributions, Ola Aina is there.
“It will be a stronger team than the one we beat in June in Abidjan. We are wary.”
The Super Eagles will need a win to go top of the table after Libya and Rwanda played out a 1-1 draw in the other group game.
