Super Eagles of Nigeria striker Victor Boniface was once again on target for Bayer Leverkusen in Germany
Bayer Leverkusen conceded two late goals in a 2-2 draw with Holstein Kiel, suffering yet another early blow to their Bundesliga title defense.
With six games played, Xabi Alonso’s team currently has 11 points as they are behind in the title race.
Bayer Leverkusen 2-2 Holstein Kiel
After just four minutes at the BayArena, Victor Boniface gave Leverkusen the lead with a left-footed shot from a close angle.
This is the earliest goal he had scored in the Bundesliga, surpassing his previous strike in the ninth minute when Leverkusen thrashed FC Heidenheim 1846 back in September last year.
Leverkusen’s second goal came just four minutes later as Jonas Hofmann coolly tapped home.
Kiel’s goal in stoppage time in the first half highlighted Leverkusen’s defensive shortcomings this season.
In the 69th minute, Jann-Fiete Arp tied the score for Kiel from the penalty spot as Leverkusen was unable to maintain their lead.
Boniface was substituted for Patrick Schick in the 70th minute of the game.
Leverkusen dropped points again in front of their home supporters despite their best efforts to find the winning goal.
Boniface continues to climb up the goal charts in Germany and follows up his first Champions League goal in midweek.
He returns to action when Leverkusen takes on Frankfurt in their next fixture after the international break.
