Super Eagles of Nigeria star striker Peter Olayinka will be out for months due to an Achilles tendon injury.
It should come as no surprise that Olayinka missed Saturday’s league match against FK Sparkak Subotica after suffering the injury at the conclusion of Red Star Belgrade’s UEFA Champions League loss to AS Monaco last week.
The 28-year-old had a successful knee procedure, according to the Red Star Belgrade official website, but there is no guarantee that he will return anytime soon.
Olayinka, who has four goal involvements and has only missed two starts this season across all competitions, is among the first names on the Serbian team’s list.
Olayinka took to social media to show off a successful surgery.
Along with photos was a message that said, “In the midst of your struggles, God is your constant companion. He whispers peace into your soul and gives you strength to face another day Isaiah 26:3.”
With eight goals in the regular season and three in the Championship round, he contributed to the team’s victory in the Serbian SuperLiga last season.
The Ibadan-born forward will undoubtedly be out till the new year, as it is unclear when he will return to action.
