“We must have an identity” – Amorim

Ruben Amorim has given his first interview as Manchester United manager.

The 39-year-old was speaking with United’s in-house TV channel which showed him looking around a floodlit Old Trafford.

“You watch on TV and you know that it’s big and it’s impressive, but when you are here you can feel it and I think you feel the history,” Amorim says.

“I’m really, really proud to be a Manchester United coach, so it’s amazing. It’s a real honour to be here.”

Amorim maintained that his main priority is creating an identity with the team.

“We must have an identity,” Amorim told MUTV. “If our players take the shirt, they will know that it is the Manchester United team. From day one we will start with our identity. Of course we are going to prepare for the games, but we will focus a lot on our game model. How to play, how to press, these small details. Everybody thinks the same, running back, playing, enjoying. This is what drives me.”

Amorim also addressed lingering questions about how intends to set up his team.

“A lot of people now talk about the 3-4-3 and the 4-3-3 and all that stuff,” he said. “But when I think as a player or as a teammate of Manchester United, it is not a system of formation, it’s like the character of the players, the way they see the club.”

His first game in charge will be against Ipswich in the Premier League on November 24.
