Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha made his first start and scored for Germany in their 1-1 draw against Hungary as they wrapped up their international break in Budapest on Tuesday night.
With a place in the quarterfinals already secured, Julian Nagelsmann made a host of changes to his side, with Nmecha, who is of Nigerian origin, making his first ever start for the Germans.
There wasn’t much in terms of chances in the first-half, but things picked up after the break. Brandt had a goal ruled out for offside, before Kai Havertz was denied by the post. Nmecha then fired Germany in front in the 76th minute, turning home from the rebound after Schlotterbeck’s initial header was saved.
Hungary were then awarded a penalty in the 97th minute as Robin Koch handled the ball inside the box. Dominik Szoboszlai stepped up and scored the equalising goal to deny Germany the three points.
Despite the draw, Germany finished top in their UEFA Nations League group.
