Shooting Stars football club of Ibadan got the better of Kano Pillars at the Lekan Salami Stadium otherwise known as Adamasingba on Saturday evening.
Fans were treated to a keenly contested match as both sides, on the balance of play deserve to win.
However, the home side secured three points with a 2-0 victory as they maintain their unbeaten run at home.
Joshua Akpan and Adam Mustapha scored in the first and second half respectively to give the home side their third consecutive win.
Mustapha powered a ferocious strike from a free kick into the roof of the net to seal the win for Shooting Stars.
Kano Pillars’ Abba Adam had the opportunity to give the visitors the lead but wasted the one-on-one with the goalkeeper chance.
Yusuf Abdullah missed another opportunity to score for the visitors moments after Adam’s opportunity.
Kano Pillars has four shots on target but failed to convert any while Shooting Stars had five and converted two.
The win over Kano Pillars take Shooting Stars into fourth position on the NPFL log pending the completion of Matchday 17 fixtures tomorrow.
Earlier on, Lobi Stars secured a 1-0 victory over Plateau United courtesy of Waheed Asebayo’s goal in added time of the first half.
The Markudi-based team are 15th in the log with 19 points from 17 matches as they look to stay very clear off the zone going into the new year.
