Nottingham Forest beat Spurs to extend winning run

Nottingham Forest edged Tottenham Hotspur at the City Ground on Boxing Day to extend their winning run to four matches. Anthony Elanga, the former Manchester United forward scored the only goal of the match.

Nottingham Forest handed Tottenham Hotspur their fourth defeat in five matches against against top-half teams in the league.

The City Ground as usual rocked loud and vociferous as the Tricky Trees continued their brilliant run of form.

Nottingham Forest came into the match on the back of an impressive win at Brentword before Christmas.

The match was keenly contested even though only one goal made the difference on the night after 90 minutes of action.

Matz Sels was called into action as early as the fifth minute as he denied Son Hueng-Min from scoring the opener.

Tottenham controlled the game and were dominant inmpossesion in the opening quarter of the match.

However, Anthony Elanga gave the home side the lead against the run of play from a composed finish in the box.

Morgan Gibbs-White sent a brilliant pass into the path of Elanga before the former Manchester United forward controlled and slotted the ball into bottom left corner.

Once again Matz Sels made another brilliant save to deny the visitors.

Brennan Johnson took a one-time shot in the box but the Belgian goalkeeper pulled a brilliant save to keep the scoreline unchanged.

Fraser Forester at the other end showed great reflex to stop Morgan Gibbs-White from doubling the advantage before the hour mark.

Brennan Johnson did all he could to parity but Matz Sels got in position to thwart his rebound from touching the back of the net.

The match ended with Djed Spence getting his matching orders as he picked up a second yellow card.

Nottingham Forest are currently third on the log with 33 points after 18 matches.
