The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Committee met on Thursday, December 2, to begin the search for a new Super Eagles coach ahead of the resumption of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March.

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Shehu Gusau, the head of the Technical Committee, Austin Eguavoen, and other stakeholders in the football federation were present at the meeting held at the NFF secretariat in Abuja.

The Super Eagles are at risk of not qualifying for the World Cup after a disastrous start to the qualification series, with no wins after four matches.

Zimbabwe, Rwanda, and South Africa each picked up a point against the Super Eagles, while Benin Republic handed the three-time African champions a shock defeat in June 2024.

Despite qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with two matches to spare, the performances of the team under former interim coach Austin Eguavoen left much to be desired.

The Nigeria Football Federation is keen on hiring a foreign technical advisor as soon as possible to turn around the fortunes of the team.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will take on Rwanda in Kigali and Zimbabwe in Uyo when the World Cup qualification resumes in March.

Nigeria are fifth on the log with three points after four matches.
