Remo Stars stage stunning comeback as NPFL matchday thrills with goals galore

On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) featured several compelling matches across various venues.

In Ikenne, league leaders Remo Stars showcased resilience by overturning a two-goal deficit to secure a 3–2 victory over Abia Warriors. The visitors took an early lead with goals from Ezekiel Ayodele and Ijoma Desouza. However, Remo Stars equalized before halftime through Olamilekan Adedayo and Jabbar Malik. Franck Mawuena netted the decisive goal in the 53rd minute, extending Remo Stars’ lead at the top of the table to eight points.

 

Ikorodu City delivered an impressive performance with a 4-1 win over Kano Pillars. Goals from Shola Adelani, Austin Uzondu, a Rabiu Ali own goal, and Marvelous Freedom secured the win for the hosts. Abba Adam scored the sole goal for Kano Pillars.

In Maiduguri, El-Kanemi Warriors triumphed over defending champions Enugu Rangers with a 2–1 scoreline. Salihu Nasiru was the hero for the home side, scoring both goals, while Isaac Saviour found the net for the visitors.

At the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa United were held to a 1–1 draw by Lobi Stars. Onyekachi Okafor gave Lobi Stars the lead in the 27th minute, but Friday Apollos equalized for the home team 18 minutes from time as both teams settled for a point apiece.

Bayelsa United secured a commanding 4–1 victory over Sunshine Stars at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa. Ogba Ifeanyi scored twice, with Auwal Sadiq and Nneyi Ofem adding to the tally for the hosts. Waheed Adebayo netted the consolation goal for Sunshine Stars.

These results have significant implications for the NPFL standings, with Remo Stars solidifying their position at the summit and other teams jostling for favorable positions as the season progresses.
