In a commanding display at the Estadio Metropolitano, Atlético Madrid secured their place in the Copa del Rey semi-finals with a resounding 5-0 victory over Getafe.
Atlético set the tone early, with Giuliano Simeone, son of head coach Diego Simeone, opening the scoring in the 8th minute with a precise header. He doubled the lead in the 17th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to slot the ball past Getafe’s goalkeeper.
Samu Lino extended Atlético’s advantage to 3-0 before halftime, finishing into the bottom corner from inside the area. Christantus Uche wasted a fantastic opportunity to reduce the deficit before halftime when he fired past the post.
Ángel Correa added a fourth with a long-range effort in the 78th minute, and Alexander Sørloth capped the scoring in the 86th minute, sealing a comprehensive win for Atlético.
With this victory, Atlético Madrid advances to the Copa del Rey semi-finals and will shift focus to their upcoming LaLiga derby against leaders Real Madrid.
