Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye returned to action for the first time on Monday night after a lengthy layoff.
Okoye stood in between the sticks for Udinese in the one-all draw away at Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper suffered a wrist injury in December 2024 and underwent surgery, which kept him out of action for several weeks.
Okoye played the entire match and made a couple of saves to help the visitors secure maximum points.
While recuperating from injury, Maduka Okoye was allegedly involved in a betting scandal.
The goalkeeper was alleged to have placed a bet against himself to get a yellow card in a Serie A match against tonight’s opponent.
The case is currently under investigation, but if found guilty, he could face a four-year ban from football.
Maduka Okoye, on the flip side, is in Eric Chelle’s provisional 39-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
