Doucoure steals late winner at City Ground as Everton put Nottingham Forest Champions League chase in doubt

Nottingham Forest suffered another setback in their bid to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.

The Tricky Trees lost their second consecutive game in the league on Saturday afternoon to Everton at home.

Abdoulaye Doucoure scored a late winner to give David Moyes’ men maximum points in a close match up between the two sides.

Matz Sels made three brilliant saves to deny Everton from taking the lead in the first half. The Belgian goalkeeper stopped Iliman Ndiaye and James Garner’s goal-bound efforts within two minutes.

Callum Hudson-Odoi was the brightest player on the pitch for the home side in the absence of Chris Wood.

The English winger forced two saves off Jordan Pickford as Nottingham Forest came alive after a poor first half showing.

With seconds left in added time, Dwight McNeil found Abdoulaye Doucoure with a cheeky pass and the Malian midfielder hit a one-time shot into the net to seal the win.

Nottingham Forest are still third on the log but are now just two points above Manchester City who dismantled Crystal Palace at the Etihad in the lunchtime kickoff.
