In a dramatic day of Premier League action, Leicester City ended their eight-game losing streak with a spirited draw against Brighton, while Aston Villa bolstered their Champions League aspirations by securing a commanding victory over already-relegated Southampton.
Leicester City 2–2 Brighton
Leicester City ended their eight-match Premier League losing streak with a spirited 2-2 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium. The Foxes, who hadn’t scored in 885 minutes, twice came from behind to earn a valuable point.
Brighton’s João Pedro converted two penalties, the first after Simon Adingra was fouled in the box, and the second following a challenge by Luke Thomas.
However, Leicester responded each time, with Stephy Mavididi netting the first equalizer and Caleb Okoli heading in the second to level the match.
Despite the draw, Leicester remain 19th in the table with 18 points, two behind Ipswich Town and 14 points from safety with seven games remaining. Brighton, now winless in five, sit ninth with 48 points, jeopardizing their European aspirations.
Southampton 0–3 Aston Villa
Aston Villa bolstered their Champions League qualification hopes with a 3-0 victory over already-relegated Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium. Substitutes Ollie Watkins, Donyell Malen, and John McGinn scored late goals to secure the win.
Watkins broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute, followed by Malen’s goal six minutes later. McGinn added a third in stoppage time after Marco Asensio had two penalties saved by Southampton’s Aaron Ramsdale.
The win moves Villa into fifth place with 54 points, keeping them in contention for a Champions League spot.
Southampton, under interim manager Simon Rusk, have now suffered 13 home defeats this season and remain on 10 points, risking the Premier League’s lowest-ever points tally if they fail to secure at least two more points from their remaining six games.
