United struck inside two minutes through Bryan Mbeumo, survived intense Liverpool pressure, with Cody Gakpo hitting the post three times, and were eventually rewarded when Harry Maguire powered in a header from a Bruno Fernandes cross late in the second half.
Liverpool’s fourth straight defeat signals serious trouble for their title hopes.
