Real Betis were the biggest winners on Thursday night as they progressed into the Europa League quarter-finals.

The Spanish side needed a win to qualify in regular time after losing the first leg of their round of 16 tie to Panathinaikos.

Betis made light work of the Greek side at the Estadio de la Cartuja with a convincing 4-0 win -two goals in each half.

Auto Rubial put the hosts ahead after eight minutes to aggregate the scoreline with a rebound into the net.

Former Manchester United midfielder, Sofyan Amrabat doubled the lead with a ferocious shot from range just before the break.

In other results, Aston Villa rolled over Lille at Villa Park with a 2-0 win.

John McGinn and Leon Bailey scored in the second half to help Unia Emery’s men win the tie 3-0 on aggregate.

Porto also won by the same scoreline at home against Stuttgart as they progressed to the last eight 4-1 on aggregate.

Bologna send Roma packing in pulsating Europa League tie

Roma and Bologna treated fans to a thriller at the Stadio Olimpico in arguably the match of the round of 16.

The two Italian sides face off for a place in the last eight after a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the round of sixteen.

Despite equalising three times in the intriguing tie, AS Roma couldn’t get the needed result as Bologna secured a 4-3 win in extra time.

Nicolo Cambiaghi scored the winner in the 111th minute to push Bologna into the quarter-finals of a European competition for the first time since the 1998/99 season.
