International friendly: Jordan holds Super Eagles to a draw in Antalya

Nigeria’s Super Eagles were forced to a draw by Jordan on Tuesday night in Antalya as they rounded off the March international window.

The match ended two-all in a game of two halves that saw the Super Eagles dominate the first while Jordan finished strong in the second.

With a couple of players rested from the 2-1 win over Iran on Friday, Eric Chelle lined up a seemingly strong side with Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams leading the line.

Mousa Tamari gave Jordan the lead in the 17th minute with a ferocious shot from a free-kick. Francis Uzoho had no answer as the ball sailed into the net.

Akor Adams’ goal was ruled offside but Simon Moses’ stood as the Super Eagles equalised in the 25th minute.

Glasgow Rangers’s defender, Emmanuel Fernandez on his full debut put Nigeria ahead just before the break as he got to the end of Bright Osayi-Samuel’s cross into the box.

While the Super Eagles looked lackadaisical in the second half even with the introduction of Iwobi and Ndidi, Jordan grew into the game and grabbed the equaliser.

Substitute Mohammad Al Aldahod received a pass from Noor Al Rawabdeh and spotted the ball into the back of the net, leaving Adebayo Adeleye helpless.

With less than two minutes to the end of the tie, Alex Iwobi lost his cool and latched onto a Jordanian player who pulled him while in transition for an attack.

The Fulham midfielder got a red card while the opposition player got a yellow as the tie ended 2-2.

The red card is Alex Iwobi’s second in the colours of the Super Eagles having picked up his first in 2021 at the Africa Cup of Nations against Tunisia in a round-of-16 fixture.
