New manager bounce dashed as Sunderland compound Tottenham Hotspur’s woes

Tottenham Hotspur are officially in the relegation zone following yet another loss in the Premier League.

Roberto De Zerbi’s tenure as manager of the North London side started on an undesirable note with a 1-0 loss away at Tottenham.

The Lilywhites were hoping to get their first Premier League win of the year with the “new manager bounce” luck on Sunday afternoon at the Stadium of Light.

Despite a bright start to the match, Tottenham struggled to breach the home side’s defence as the first half ended in a stalemate.

Nordi Mukiele gave Sunderland the lead and only goal of the tie with a shot off a Tottenham Hotspur defender.

Pedro Porro came close to snatching an equaliser in added time of the 90 from a free-kick but Robin Roefs made a magnificent save to deny the Spanish defender.
