Sudanese club Al Hilal have confirmed that Nigerian forward Sunday Adetunji has officially changed his international allegiance from Nigeria to Sudan.

The announcement was made on Thursday through the club’s official social media page, with Al Hilal also confirming that defender Steve Ebuela has switched nationality from DR Congo to Sudan.

The development means Adetunji is now eligible to represent the Sudanese national team.

Adetunji began his professional career with Abia Warriors in 2017 before going on to play for Enyimba and Lobi Stars. He also had a stint in the Czech Republic with FK Příbram, featuring for both the reserve and senior teams.

The striker later returned to the Nigeria Premier Football League, playing for Lobi Stars, Plateau United and Abia Warriors again before sealing a move to Rivers United in January 2021.

His impressive performances earned him a transfer to North Macedonian side KF Shkupi in August 2021.

Adetunji enjoyed a remarkable debut season at Shkupi, scoring 20 goals to emerge as the league’s top scorer while helping the club win their first-ever league title.

In September 2023, the 26-year-old joined Serbian outfit FK Čukarički as a free agent. He announced himself in style by scoring on his debut against Red Star Belgrade and also won a crucial penalty in the same game.

Adetunji’s only appearance for the Nigeria national football team came on July 4, 2021, when he featured as a substitute in a 4-0 friendly defeat against Mexico national football team.
