Nigerian youngster Olashile Musa Lawal has completed a move to Danish Superliga side FC Midtjylland from Nigerian academy outfit FC Ebedei, further strengthening the long-standing pathway between the two clubs in developing young talents.

The highly-rated 18-year-old forward will initially join FC Midtjylland’s U-19 squad, where he is expected to continue his development before pushing for a place in the senior team.

Lawal expressed his delight after securing the move, describing it as the fulfilment of a childhood dream.

“It means an incredible amount to me. Since I was little, I have dreamed of taking this very step,” Lawal told the club’s official website.

“I have a lot of goals for myself and I know this is a big step in the right direction for me. I want to help the team and show what I can do as part of the academy.”

“I am really looking forward to becoming part of the team, and I look forward to developing as a player and learning from the others,” he added.

FC Midtjylland officials are equally excited about the acquisition, with the club viewing Lawal as one of Nigeria’s most promising young attacking talents.

Head of FCM Nigeria, Jonas Dal, praised the teenager’s versatility and technical qualities.

“Olashile is a player you really want to have as part of your team. He has many different qualities; he can play both as a number nine and as a tall striker. He is incredibly skilled on the ball and also has impressive technique.

“He has a good physique and wins many of his duels, while also being fast. Now he will be part of the academy and we can work even more purposefully on developing him as a player.

“He is a very talented player, and we are incredibly happy that he has signed a contract with FC Midtjylland.”

Lawal’s move is the latest example of FC Midtjylland’s successful scouting and development model in Nigeria, with FC Ebedei continuing to serve as a key talent pipeline for the Danish club. The teenager will now hope to follow in the footsteps of several Nigerian players who have used the Danish league as a platform to launch successful professional careers in Europe.
