Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has signed a new contract until June 2030, the Premier League champions announced on Wednesday. The 44-year-old Spaniard signed put pen to paper months after he ended the club’s 22-year wait for a Premier League title. The North London club announced the development on its social media handles.
Arteta’s previous contract would have expired at the end of the current campaign but the extension rewards a spell that began in December 2019 and has made him the current longest-serving coach in the Premier League by a distance. His core coaching staff have also signed new deals.
“It’s a privilege to commit my future to the club,” Arteta said in the club’s announcement. He called Arsenal a unique place and praised its character, saying he is proud that the journey will continue.
He also spoke about what the moment means to his family, and about how far the project can go. “This is such a proud moment for me and my family,” Arteta said, before adding that the bond he has built with the club makes him certain that “this is only the beginning of what we can achieve together.”
Co-chairmen Stan and Josh Kroenke backed their manager just as strongly. They said Arteta has “a deep understanding of Arsenal’s values and carries them in his heart.” The owners added that he knows what the club means to everyone connected to it and is committed to building on what they have achieved together.
Chief executive Richard Garlick said Arsenal are entering a defining period under Arteta, which he described as “an important time in Arsenal Football Club’s history.”
Arteta, who spent the last five years of his playing career at the club, has won the FA Cup and now the league title as manager. Arsenal also reached the Champions League final last season, where they lost to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties. The new deal gives them continuity as they chase further domestic and European honours.
