Abia Warriors handed Remo Stars their second loss of the season after a comfortable victory on Thursday evening.
The Warlords came into the tie off the back of theur ouster from the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round on Sunday.
Emeka Obioma put the host ahead just before the half hour mark after moments of sustained pressure on the visitors.
Abia Warriors took their lead into the break as the champions struggled to get a grip on the match.
However, the opening minutes of the second half saw the visitors gain a bit of control as host cleared Samuel Anakwe’s effort off the line.
Veteran goalkeeper Okemute Odah was called into action moments later as he pulled a big save to deny the reigning champions.
However, Sunday Megwo put the tie away from reach of the host as he scored from the penalty spot to double the lead.
Abia Warriors secured the win with two goals and a clean sheet as they moved to the fourth spot with nine points from five matches.
Meanwhile, Kwara United bounced back from their disappointing exit from the CAF Confederation Cup as the Harmony Boys secured a 2-1 win over Plateau United.
Johnmark Aule scored 10 minutes from regulation time to secure the win for the reigning FA Cup champions.
