AC Milan secures playoffs spot despite loss to Dinamo Zagreb

The seven-time champions did just enough to secure a place in the UEFA Champions League playoffs despite losing their final match of the league format to Dinamo Zagreb

AC Milan ended the league format of the Champions League on a disappointing note on Wednesday night in Zagreb.

The seven-time European champions fell to a disappointing 2-1 loss to Dinamo Zagreb.

Milan played with 10 men for most part of the match after Yunus Musah received a second yellow card in nine minutes.

Martin Baturina and Marko Pjaca scored in each half to given the home side the win.

Baturina pounced on a defensive blunder to give. Dinamo Zagreb the lead after 19 minutes of action.

Lukas Stojkovic doubled the lead for the home team on the 50th minute from Marko Baturina’s pass.

However, the video assistant referee disallowed the goal due a handball during build up.

Christian Pulisic equalized for Milan three minutes later as he latched on to a cross into the box before powering a low drive into the bottom corner.

Marko Pjaca got on the scoresheet eventually as he buried a low drive from the box into the back of the net to give Dinamo Zagreb the lead.

The video assistant referee overturned a penalty the center referee initially awarded to AC Milan on the 65th minute.

The introduction of Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze didn’t change the situation for AC Milan as the winger struggled to impress.

Dinamo Zagreb won but failed to qualify for the the Champions League playoffs spot as they finished 25th.

AC Milan finished 13th and secured a playoffs 15 points with 15 points from 8 matches.
