Houston Rockets’ wing defender/shooting guard, Josh Okogie was the most outstanding player as Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team the D’Tigers won their second group stage match at the ongoing Afrobasket Championship in Angola.
Josh Okogie led the team in points – 33 as D’Tigers recorded an emphatic victory over defending champions of the competition – Tunisia on Friday afternoon.
The D’Tigers came into the tie on the back of a win over Mozambique in their opening fixture while Tunisia suffered a loss to Cameroon.
Nigeria dominated the reigning champions in all quarters of the match as they displayed efficiency in offense and defense which lead to a 87-66 win.
Josh Okogie poured in 33 points with six rebounds and two assists while Caleb Agada and Emmanuel Omogbo scored nine and eight points respectively.
D’Tigers also got support from the bench with Mike Nuga, Divine Eke, Stan Okoye adding single digits in points.
Omar Abada and Yacine Toumi scored 15 and 13 points each as Tunisia recorded their second loss of the tournament.
Nigeria will take on Cameroon, who also have two wins in their final group match on Sunday as they look to top Group B heading into the last eight of the competition.
