Alex Iwobi has made a commitment that he had his teammates will do everything possible to ensure that the Super Eagles qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 27-year-old midfielder said the team will play the remaining six games with unwavering commitment – a war-like level of commitment and dedication.

Iwobi who was part of Super Eagles last World Cup appearance in 2018 said everyone wants to experience the World Cup being the biggest football competition in the world.

The midfielder had a chat with the BBC where he shared his thoughts on the path to qualification as well as the level of commitment of the players irrespective of the manager that takes charge of the team.

“Everyone wants to experience the World Cup, it’s the best and biggest competition in the world,” said the 27-year-old.

“We know it’s not going to be easy because every team in Africa wants to qualify.

It’s basically like going to war every game, but we’ll put up a fight and try and see what we can do. We’re all hungry and motivated”

The Fulham midfielder added that players must take full responsibility and do their best irrespective of the manager the NFF hire to lead the team.

“We’ll never use it as an excuse because we can only hold ourselves accountable as players,” Iwobi stated.

“No matter what manager comes into play, essentially it’s down to us as players to give 100%. We’ve got the quality, we all play in various high leagues across Europe. We have got to take accountability and get the points to qualify.”

The Super Eagles missed out on the 2022 FIFA World Cup Cup and are on the brink of suffering the same fate they suffered three year ago.

Nigeria find itself in a precarious situation with three drawn matches and a loss in their opening four matches of the qualification series.

The three-time African champions are winless having dropped points against Zimbabwe, Rwanda, South Africa and Benin Republic.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification series resume in March and the Super Eagles will play away at Rwanda and Zimbabwe at home as they look rewrite their fortunes.
