Nigerian international Alex Iwobi has reportedly been the victim of a robbery at his residence, with valuables worth hundreds of thousands of pounds said to have been taken during the incident.
Early reports indicate that the attackers broke into the home of the Fulham F.C. midfielder and threatened him during the ordeal. The robbers allegedly made away with several expensive items, including luxury watches, jewelry, mobile phones and other personal belongings believed to be worth up to £500,000.
Sources close to the situation say the incident happened late at night, when the armed intruders gained access to the property and confronted the player. Iwobi was reportedly held at knifepoint while the attackers searched the house for valuables.
Despite the frightening encounter, the 27-year-old footballer is said to be safe and unharmed. There have been no confirmed reports of injuries to him or any members of his household.
Authorities are believed to have begun an investigation into the incident, although no official statement had been released at the time of filing this report.
Iwobi, who has been a regular figure for the Nigeria national football team, has enjoyed a solid season with Fulham in the Premier League, where he has become an important part of the club’s midfield.
The robbery has raised fresh concerns about the safety of high-profile footballers, many of whom have been targeted by organised burglary gangs in recent years.
