Manchester United have officially unveiled Carlos Baleba as their latest summer signing today.
The 22-year-old Cameroon international midfielder has completed his move from Brighton & Hove Albion on a five-year contract running until 2031. The deal is worth an initial £65 million, with a further £5 million in potential add-ons and a sell-on clause for Brighton.
Baleba becomes the third midfielder to arrive this window after Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, strengthening Michael Carrick’s options in the engine room as United continue their squad rebuild.
Speaking about the transfer, Baleba said: “It is an incredible feeling to join the club of my dreams. Playing at Old Trafford is always special but the opportunity to do so as a Manchester United player will be a real honour.”
He added that he is eager to work with Carrick, whose experience he believes will help him reach the highest level, and stressed his determination to contribute to the club’s ambitions.
Director of football Jason Wilcox welcomed the arrival, saying: “We are delighted to further strengthen our midfield with the addition of another established senior international with a proven track record of performing in the Premier League.”
Wilcox also highlighted Baleba’s clear desire to join United and his confidence in the team’s plans, describing him as an ideal fit for the squad.
Currently recovering from an ankle injury sustained in pre-season, Baleba is expected to be available for selection around mid-September.
