Arsenal took advantage of Chelsea’s loss to Fulham on Boxing Day as they leapfrog the Blues to go second on the Premier League table.
Kai Havertz goal on the 23rd minute secured maximum points for the Gunners as they remain unbeaten at home this season.
The Gunners started probing the visitors early in the game and Dutch defender Jurriën Timber forced a save off Arijanet Muric from a shot towards the middle of goal.
Leandro Trossard had earlier shot at goal but Muric diverted the ball to give the Gunners their first corner of the match.
However, the home side couldn’t sustain the pressure for long as the breakthrough came on the 25th minute.
Leandro Trossard lofted a ball towards Kai Havertz and the German forward buried a left-footed drive into goal to give Arsenal the lead.
Gabriel Jesus thought he had doubled Arsenal’s lead a few minutes later but his goal was ruled for offside.
Arsenal dominated game as expected as Ipswich kept a low block which denied the home side spaces in the final third.
Martin Ordegaard came close to scoring the second goal from an impressive individual effort but once again Arijanet Muric pulled a decent save to keep the scoreline the same.
Kai Havertz’s claim for a penalty in the final quarter of the match was waved off by referee Darren England.
The match ended 1-0 as Arsenal move to second spot with 36 points while Liverpool sit on the summit of the league with 42 points.
